The mission of Mideast Resource is to develop a programme of work to publicise and explain the many serious adverse impacts on health and well-being of the disastrous situation unfolding in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank on all involved. These impacts include (but are not limited to) deaths and injuries, displacement and dispossession, degradation of medical care and health facilities, fatalities of doctors and other health care professionals, psychological trauma for adults and especially children; intergenerational consequences as a result of bereavement, the destruction of families, and orphanhood; and severe moral injury and post-traumatic stress for combatants.
Our main emphasis will be on the physical, mental and social health impacts of:
living with the shattered infrastructure in the war zone(s), perhaps with a special emphasis on healthcare infrastructure,
living with the ongoing threat of terrorist violence in Israel (Hamas), the West Bank (Settlers) and Gaza (IDF)
living under military occupation (Gaza and the West Bank)
the psychology of violence and conflict resolution.
We are health professionals who have spent time working in both the Occupied Territories of Palestine and Israel.
